Reveal: Inside the Artists Vision
January 29 – March 12
The Russell Gallery Presents "Reveal: Inside the Artists Vision," running January 29th through March 12th 2011. Featured is the artwork of four critically acclaimed Detroit artists, Mario Moore, Sabrina Nelson, Harold Allen, and M. Saffell Gardner. The show will premier with an opening reception on Saturday, January 29th from 4pm - 7pm. There will be live music from jazz duo Ron English and Dana Bass and refreshments will be provided by Chef David Gardner.
Mario Moore
Mario has spent his life surrounded by an environment of art. An educated man, he spent a year studying abroad in Italy. This experience helped shape the artist that he is today. "The work that I create is about my experience and sheds light into my world. I want to tell the story of young African American men and the impact history has had on us."
Sabrina Nelson
Sabrina works with concepts that deal with the African American religious iconography. She works with mixed media and includes references to cross cultural ideas in her work. "I like to say that I make alters for living and non-living spirits."
Harold Allen
Harold Allen is a very talented artist with a rich history in the world of art. With two art degrees in fine arts, Harold has spent the last 25 years teaching the young artists of tomorrow everything from fundamentals to art history. During his tenure, he has also found the time to win many awards for his paintings as well as be commissioned for many public works and exhibit across the country.
M. Safell Gardner
The focus of his work is to push the envelope of his subconscious int primordial freshness where ideas don't exist. His current visual vocabulary merges cartography and drafting paired with both brilliant and muted hues mixed from dry pigment and balanced with soft and hard edged imagery.
